Anthropic Raises $65B, Launches Claude Opus 4.8

Anthropic has raised $65 billion in new funding at a $965 billion valuation, surpassing OpenAI, while simultaneously launching Claude Opus 4.8. The new model shows significant coding improvements, scoring 74.2% on Terminal-Bench 2.1 and powering a new dynamic workflows feature in Claude Code. The funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Sequoia, and others, including chipmakers Micron, SK hynix, and Samsung. Anthropic's revenue run rate has tripled to $47 billion in three months. The company plans to use proceeds for computing infrastructure, AI safety, and partnerships. It also previewed upcoming Mythos-class models, currently limited due to cybersecurity misuse concerns, with broader release expected after new guardrails are developed.
