Anthropic, OpenAI slash AI model prices simultaneously
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 with a 20% price cut, bringing input costs to $4 per million tokens and output to $20. The model shows major performance gains, including 58.7% on Terminal-Bench-Science versus 29% for its predecessor, and an 85% drop in containment bypass attempts.
Minutes later, OpenAI countered with two cheaper GPT-6 models: Sol at $2 per million input tokens and Luna at just 10 cents. Both were derived from GPT-6 Astra and tuned for cost efficiency, with Luna targeting high-volume tasks and Sol focused on coding and agent work.
