Anthropic Launches Faster, Cheaper Claude Sonnet 5.5

Anthropic has released Sonnet 5.5, its updated mid-tier AI model, claiming it is 30% faster than its predecessor with a significantly slower token burn rate. Designed for everyday tasks like coding and office documents, Sonnet 5.5 also outperforms Opus 5.5 on agentic coding benchmarks due to its ability to spawn multiple agents within cost limits. Anthropic says the model has cyber capabilities comparable to Opus 5, making it the first Sonnet subject to the same cyber safeguards as Fable and Opus. A new Haiku model is also planned for release in coming weeks.
