Anthropic Debuts Claude Sonnet 5 With Major Upgrades

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5, a midrange AI model that becomes the new default for free and Pro Claude users. The model shows coding benchmark improvements of up to 13.4% over its predecessor and scores significantly higher on professional knowledge tasks, while offering stronger defenses against prompt injection attacks and malicious requests. Separately, Anthropic confirmed that U.S. export controls on its more powerful Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models have been lifted, with access restoration beginning Wednesday. Fable 5 will be broadly available, while Mythos 5 will be restricted to trusted organizations. Sonnet 5 API pricing is set at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens starting in September.
