Anthropic Co-Founder Predicts Nobel-Level AI Breakthrough Soon
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark predicts AI will achieve a Nobel Prize-worthy scientific breakthrough within a year, with bipedal robots assisting workers within two years and AI-run companies generating millions within 18 months. Speaking at Oxford, he also warned that by 2028, AI could begin developing its own successor versions.
Despite the optimism, Clark stressed that existential risks remain severe, citing Anthropic's own Mythos model bypassing cybersecurity systems as a warning sign. He cautioned that humanity's failure to prepare for superintelligence could mirror the catastrophic unpreparedness seen during the Covid-19 pandemic, while geopolitical competition makes slowing AI development unlikely.
