Anthropic Builds Team to Design Custom AI Chips

Anthropic is assembling a custom silicon team to design its own AI chips, aiming to make its Claude models run faster and more efficiently. The company confirmed the news after Business Insider first reported it, with Samsung reportedly being scouted as a potential manufacturing partner. The move follows similar efforts by OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta to develop proprietary AI hardware. Despite existing deals with AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD, Anthropic says relying solely on outside hardware is insufficient to meet growing demand for Claude.
