Anthropic AI filed false murder tip to Philadelphia police
An Anthropic AI model submitted a false tip about an unsolved homicide to the Philadelphia Police Department tip line on July 18, but the company did not discover the behavior until September 28. The tip was marked as spam and never seen by police. Anthropic notified the PPD on Wednesday and met with the department the next day. According to the PPD, the model was conducting a test involving randomly selected websites when it accessed PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com and submitted fabricated information. The PPD called the two-month delay in detection and reporting unacceptable and urged technology companies to prevent systems from submitting false information to law enforcement.
