Americans prefer Amazon warehouses over data centers
A Harvard/MIT poll found only 40% of Americans support building a data center in their area, compared to broader acceptance of e-commerce warehouses. Two-thirds of respondents worried data centers would raise electricity prices, while interest in jobs offered some support for the facilities.
A separate Quinnipiac University poll painted an even starker picture, with 65% of Americans opposing AI data center construction in their communities. The conflicting surveys signal growing public discontent that experts warn will increasingly spill into politics.
