Amazon's Panay Bets on Ambient AI Over Apps
Amazon devices chief Panos Panay envisions a future where ambient AI replaces the need to manually interact with apps. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, he described a shift from today's point-and-shoot smartphone model to devices that work quietly in the background, anticipating user needs. Amazon's new Bee wearables, including a wrist band and magnetic smartphone attachment, passively record audio and generate notes and reminders. Raw audio is deleted after real-time processing, and transcripts are encrypted with user-controlled keys. Panay stressed that no single form factor will dominate, but an intelligence layer will connect all devices.
