Amazon releases open source Jev-inspired decision model
Amazon Web Services has released Strands Decider 2B, an open source decision model inspired by TypeSafe's Jev. Built on the Qwen3.5-2B language model, it selects from pre-decided options and returns a confidence score rather than generating text. The project originated with AWS distinguished engineer Marc Brooker, who built a personal version after encountering Jev. It briefly topped the Jevbench ranking for its size class before Amazon cleaned it up for public release. The model is small enough to run locally and aims to offer agentic workflows a faster, cheaper alternative to full LLMs for routine decision steps.
