Alibaba Claims Qwen3.8 Rivals Top AI Models

Alibaba previewed Qwen3.8-Max-Preview at the World AI Conference in Shanghai, claiming the 2.4 trillion-parameter model ranks second only to Anthropic's Claude Fable 5. The model handles text, images, video and documents, marking Alibaba's first Qwen model above 1 trillion parameters with multimodal capability. However, Alibaba provided no benchmark scores, model card or independent verification to support its ranking claim. Open weights are promised soon with no set date, while the preview is available at 10% of standard pricing. The launch coincides with rival Moonshot AI's Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion-parameter model released days earlier.
