AI Wrote a Third of Web Pages Since ChatGPT

Over one-third of web pages published after ChatGPT's November 2022 launch show signs of AI authorship, according to a new Pew Research study. The findings align with Cloudflare's recent report that bot traffic has overtaken human web traffic, painting a picture of bots increasingly reading content written by other bots. Pew analyzed nearly half a million English-language web pages using AI-detection technology from Open Pangram. Commercial .com domains showed AI authorship at roughly 10 times the rate of .edu or .gov sites. Researchers also noted rising use of AI-associated writing patterns, including em dashes and Oxford commas.
