AI Tools Boost Journalists, But Risks Lurk
Artificial intelligence is transforming British journalism, with 81% of journalists using it daily despite 53% expressing ethical concerns. Tools like Google's NotebookLM, Claude Projects, and transcription services Trint and Otter are saving time on research and interviews, while agentic AI like Claude Cowork offers even greater automation capabilities.
However, dangers persist. Hallucinations, bias, and privacy concerns around tools like Otter remain serious issues. Journalists also warn that AI imposes a "pseudo-academic" writing style that undermines readability, with one editor cautioning against over-reliance that could lead to what some describe as professional "brain death."
