AI Agents Outpace Identity Governance in Enterprises

Organizations now manage an average of 109 machine identities per human identity, and AI agent identities are expected to grow 85% in the next 12 months, according to Palo Alto Networks research. Yet 97% of AI agents have access to sensitive data while only 21% of organizations are confident they can manage agent security risks. SailPoint's proof-of-concept at a Fortune 500 company uncovered over 10,000 previously unknown AI agents. SailPoint's Agentic Fabric, launched in May and generally available in August, aims to discover agents, map them to human owners, and enforce real-time authorization.
