1Password Gives OpenAI Codex Secure Just-in-Time Credentials
1Password has released a Model Context Protocol server for OpenAI's Codex coding agent, enabling runtime credential access from secure vaults without exposing secrets to prompts, code, or model context. Credentials are mounted, used, and discarded at the moment of access, requiring user authentication each time.
The integration targets a widespread security risk where developers hardcode credentials into repositories or paste them into prompts, leaving long-lived secrets vulnerable to exfiltration. The release extends 1Password's existing integrations with Cursor, Browserbase, and Perplexity's Comet browser, all built on the same just-in-time access model.
